Non-food sales fail to lift after the recession

The latest report from the States Statistics Unit reveals that retail sales in Jersey in 2015 in both the food and non-food sectors rose by one per cent compared to the previous year.

However, the data showed that despite the increase, retail sales in the non-food sector were still markedly down on their pre-recession levels.

Sales in non-food stores in the last quarter of 2015 were the same as the previous year, but 15 per cent lower than at their highest in mid-2008, and the total value of retail sales in Jersey during 2015 – excluding the motor trades –was around £720 million.
