Union demands apology from businessman after ‘disgusting’ remarks about workers

Last week Mr Keen, who was previously employed as a States consultant to find public-sector efficiencies and is currently interim chief executive at Durrell, told members of the Institute of Directors at a lunch event that the States should consider privatising more departments to cut costs.

In particular he identified the Infrastructure Department, saying that the States would be better served if the department’s work was outsourced.

Nick Corbel, the head of Unite the union who has previously said that 160 jobs could be at risk and is preparing to ballot members about possible strike action over the matter, has now hit out at Mr Keen, calling his comments ‘crass, insensitive and frankly outrageous’.
