Kicking the habit: Smoking still leading cause of deaths in Jersey

The Jersey Smoking Profile 2015, published by the Health Department, reveals that in 2014, 132 adults aged 35 and over died from conditions caused by smoking.

Following the release of the figures, the Health Department is looking to update the tobacco strategy to continue to tackle smoking in the Island.

Figures show that the number of smokers in Jersey has remained largely unchanged in recent years with nearly one in five adults over the age of 16 in the Island were smokers in 2015. However, the figure has decreased slightly since 2005, when one in four smoked.
