Café feeds hopes of finding tenants for empty shops

Concerns have been raised that several premises in the precinct currently lie empty and many of the other units that are being rented are occupied by large chains such as bookmakers Ladbrokes and William Hill, as well as pasty giants Greggs and an Iceland supermarket.

St Brelade politicians Deputy Montfort Tadier and Constable Steve Pallett said they believed high rents were forcing independent retailers away from the area and leaving shops empty.

But now Dermot Hughes, associate director for Buckley and Co – the letting agents for Les Quennevais Parade – has said that a new client has taken over the rental of the former Coffee Bean Café, and although he declined to name the owner he said they had a ‘proven track record’ in retail in Jersey.

The units formerly occupied by Barber In Colour hairdressers, HTML Computers and Meyer and Son butchers are currently without tenants.
