March date for appeal against second finance centre block

Dates have been fixed for a two-day hearing on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 March, during which UK planning inspector Philip Staddon will hear from different groups about the Jersey Development Company’s plans to continue building at the Esplanade car park.

The company’s plans for the finance centre’s second block – known as building five – were approved last year, but rival developers C Le Masurier Ltd launched a third-party appeal against the scheme, which they are entitled to do because they own property within 50 metres of the boundary, and they claim that the JDC’s approved proposals breach key policies in the Island Plan, which governs building in Jersey.

During the past few months parties have been making written submissions for the appeal, which is proceeding despite a new set of plans for the same building being submitted earlier this year by the States developers.
