Town needs big UK chain outlets like Burger King, says Constable

Last week it was revealed that the franchise is due to return to the Island after securing a deal with retail group SandpiperCI.

The news has prompted some Islanders to raise the familiar question of whether the identity of Jersey’s town centre is becoming eroded by UK and international brands.

However, Mr Crowcroft said that having a Burger King which created 30 jobs opposite the Town Hall was better than having an empty shop.

‘The last thing we want in the town centre is large retail or hospitality premises boarded up,’ he said.
