Official support for plan to turn public toilet into café

The scheme will be reviewed at a meeting on Thursday during which the Planning Committee will decide whether the project can go ahead.

If the plans are approved, the public toilets and the small car park behind the building would be retained and a café would be built overlooking the southern end of St Ouen’s Bay.

Planning officers have backed the project and said that the plans justify development in the area, which sits in the heavily protected Coastal National Park.

The department’s report, which is submitted with the plans, said: ‘In conclusion, this is considered to be a well-designed scheme which, in the department’s view, can be justified on the grounds of tourism development in the Coastal National Park policy.
