Fence around public paddling pool delayed after neighbour objects

The barrier, which began to be erected by the Infrastructure Department – formerly TTS – at Coronation Park in Millbrook, is now on hold while authorities consider whether the project needs formal planning approval.

Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel said work had stopped on the fence while staff in his department clarified the situation with planners.

He explained that it was not clear whether the park had protection under the Island’s register of historic areas, in which case planning permission would be needed, or whether it was not listed and a fence could be built immediately.

Deputy Noel said that the structure – if it is given the go ahead – would be around 1.1 metres high and comes following a health and safety recommendation after a toddler came close to drowning last summer.
