Year 10 student Tom Hughes is planning a second digital learning day for his school following the success of last year’s event – which is believed to have been the first of its kind to be held in Europe.

Tom, who was last year nominated for the Young Star of the Year Award at the Pride of Jersey Awards, has so far managed to secure ten workshops, which will be run by local organisations and include various virtual-reality taster sessions for 120 pupils.

This year, representatives of the States police and the Fire and Rescue Service will be showcasing the more technological aspects of their work, including demonstrations with speed guns, drones and infra-red devices.

The event, on 18 March, will be attended by the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl and Lady McColl, Education Minister Rod Bryans and St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft.
