On Tuesday night a woman living in the Yorkshire town took to Facebook to warn people about the man, who she said had been spoken to by police after hanging around Trinity School.
However, the post was then shared among parents in Jersey, who thought that it was referring to Trinity School, on Route de la Trinité, and not Trinity Academy, almost 400 miles away in Thorne, Doncaster.
The States police and the Education Department have confirmed that they have been made aware of the issue, and Trinity School yesterday released a statement assuring parents that it was not their school.
