Live sea turtle discovered on Jersey beach

The turtle, which was roughly 18 inches long, was found on the sand between the Dicq Shack Café and the Rice Bowl restaurant in the east of the Island by Islander John Battrick.

Writing on the Facebook page Jersey Naturalist, Jordan Todd, who was crowned Environmentalist of the Year at the inaugural Jersey Evening Post Pride of Jersey Awards last year, said he believed the creature belonged to a species known as a loggerhead turtle which can grow up to 1.5 metres in length and is endangered.

The turtle, which was described as in a ‘lively condition’ has now been taken to New Era Veterinary Surgery.
