His friend Vitor Dinarte Fernandes (22), who was driving a white Honda Integra, died after losing control of his car as the pair wove in and out of traffic in separate cars on the evening of 30 December.
Moments before the fatal collision, which also seriously injured another motorist, the two drivers pulled alongside one another and smiled at each other before Silva (22), who was driving a black VW Passat sped away, the court heard on Friday.
