The alarm was raised by the man’s wife who watched helplessly from the shore.
And now St John Constable Phil Rondel, a highly experienced seafarer, wants to know why the Coastguard did not call the St Catherine’s lifeboat out as the crew would have been able to deploy much quicker.
Jersey Coastguard would only say that they ‘deployed the asset available’ in engaging the Jersey Fire and Rescue Service. They did not respond to requests form the JEP to discuss the matter further.
