The inquiry, which is chaired by eminent UK lawyer Frances Oldham, QC, wanted the department to disclose documents generated while Health was dealing with compensation claims from victims under the Historic Abuse Redress Scheme.
Health say that it has handed over the sensitive confidential records on the understanding that the Inquiry will manage the records in compliance with the Data Protection Law and that confidentiality will be preserved.
