Mrs Smith’s father, Fred Wells, was one of the British troops who arrived in Jersey to liberate the Island 69 years ago today. Mrs Perkins, who is now 81-years-old, and her family befriended Mr Wells and she wrote to his daughter after he arrived in Jersey.
And last month Mrs Smith’s son, Steven, and his wife, Helen, turned up unexpectedly at her door bringing the letter with them during a holiday to Jersey.
