Population ‘short on detail’

Chief Minister Ian Gorst said last week that he is intent on pressing ahead with the debate despite a Scrutiny panel asking for it to be delayed due to a lack of official data being available.

The Corporate Services Scrutiny panel also said that the Council of Ministers’ proposals go against the 2012 Strategic Plan, which promised a public consultation on immigration prior to any States debate.

Mr Laity said that in the IoD’s written response to Scrutiny it had set out why its members did not believe that the interim population policy provided the balance between economic, community and environmental goals that it claims to seek.
