Let’s not forget the other victims

From Sarah Corcoran.

IT was extremely sad to read of a young man’s death in a car accident and I would like to offer sincere sympathy to his family and many friends.

I am sure that the convoy in Vitor Fernandes’s memory was a very special and emotional occasion, but it is important that we all take a moment to think of other people injured in this accident.

The 47-year-old lady involved was driving in the opposite direction on her way home from visiting friends when suddenly Mr Fernandes’s car was heading towards her and she thought her time had come.

Luckily she survived and was cut out of the car and taken to hospital where she was treated for her injuries and shock. Had anyone been in the passenger seat of her car it is most likely that another family would be mourning the loss of a loved one.

After spending numerous days, including New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in hospital, she was released, but is still in a lot of pain and has been signed off work. She no longer has a car and is relying on others to help her with everyday tasks. She is constantly reliving this ordeal.

Please spare a moment to wish her a good recovery at the same time as we pay our respects to Mr Fernandes and think of his family and friends.
