Grouville Football Club won the Trinity Shield for the first time in 85 years in a thrilling final at Springfield last night.

They beat favourites St Saviour 6-5, with James Hudson scoring the winner in injury time to give Grouville the lead for the first and only time in the match.

The game was played in atrocious conditions, on a wet and muddy pitch, with Grouville up against a side which included nine Island players but which ended up with just eight, having had three sent off.

Commenting on his team’s win – their first since 1929 – Grouville manager Simon Petulla said that they were ‘absolutely delighted and really chuffed for the parish’.
