Temporary population policy will maintain the status quo

The Council of Ministers has faced pressure to come up with a permanent solution to the issue for months but various setbacks have delayed the process.

As a stop-gap until more work can be done, ministers announced last year that they would lodge an interim policy for debate early in 2014.

A public consultation about the future of the Island similar to the Imagine Jersey exercise that took place in 2007 will then take place to shape the permanent policy.

Chief Minister Ian Gorst has now revealed that the interim policy will be based on a figure of 150 new local licenses, or heads of household, per year – which translates to migration to the Island of around 325 people when families are included.
