Avenue crash: Police thank drivers for their patience

The man, believed to be in his 60s, had to be freed from his vehicle by the emergency services following the accident opposite West Park.

It is understood that the van struck a lamp post as it travelled towards town before spinning and ending up facing the wrong direction.

He was this morning in a stable and comfortable condition in the General Hospital and was expected to be discharged later in the day.

The accident caused major travel disruption for most of yesterday as westbound traffic was directed onto the inner road and eastbound traffic was diverted at First Tower. The roads were eventually reopened later in the afternoon.

The States police apologised for the inconvience and thanked drivers for their patience.
