'Disadvantaged' school faces long wait for refurbishment

News | Published:

A SCHOOL building branded unfit for purpose in 2010 will not be refurbished for the next five years, says the Education Minister.

Although the States have just agreed £222m worth of capital spending for the next three years, no cash was allocated for the redevelopment or refurbishment of Les Quennevais School.

Education Minister Pat Ryan says that the school will have to wait until 2017 before any work is carried out.

Two years ago an independent report into Jersey's secondary schools found Les Quennevais pupils were 'significantly disadvantaged' due to the poor state of its buildings.
