Excitement building for 2011 Jeux des Iles
A BUSY sporting year plus a clash with exams means Jersey may not send their biggest ever team to this year's Jeux des Iles despite taking judo competitors for the first time.
However, they are still on track to send more than 35 juniors, which would come close to matching the size of the group that went to Guadeloupe in 2008 and returned with 26 medals. That trip included a team of surfers who took part because their sport was included as a demonstration event.
It would be an increase in numbers from the 29 that secured the best ever finish of sixth overall in last year's games in the Azores although that event was hit by a reduced number of competitors due to the recession.
