Hurrahs for Hollywoods

Jersey Squash and Racketball Association president Steve Law described the game as the two boys faced each other in the under-11 boys’ final.

‘What a match these young boys produced. In front of an enthralled gallery including their father Shane, himself a former junior champion, these juniors displayed a maturity and tactical nous way beyond their years,’ he said. ‘Angus took the early lead but Joseph’s tenacity in retrieving allowed him to claw his way back into the match. At 2-2 both threw themselves into every rally with shots coming from all over the court.

‘Several times the crowd cheered thinking that the point was over only for the ball to be kept in play. In the end Joseph just kept his cool to win 3-2 in a match neither player deserved to lose.’

Sadly for Angus he was to suffer another defeat losing out to Jonty Jenner 3-0 in the boys’ U13 final although he can take some consolation in being the only player to feature in two squash finals on the day.
