The advantages of double-deckers outnumber any drawbacks

From S Durley.

WITH reference to the letter from James Monnelly (JEP, 12 February) regarding the possible use of double-decker buses in Jersey, he apparently does not realise that all modern double-deckers have separate exit and entrance doors which facilitate the movement of passengers.

The fact that they carry an average of 80 passengers as opposed to the 40-plus of the current Jersey buses should be ample space during busy periods.

Some may object to the fact that they are 8½ inches wider than the single-deckers, but that means that seating is less cramped and movement in the aisles is easier. There is also more luggage space, particularly for Airport passengers.

I agree that the slightly greater width would restrict such vehicles to routes 12, 12a and 15, but many people enjoy the improved view from the top deck, particularly visitors.

Regarding the time of the No 15 route from Red Houses to town, unless there is a traffic hold-up, the bus usually completes the journey within 25 minutes.
