Surfers from Brittany’s Bernick and Seven Islands surf clubs were in the Island to compete against Jersey in the return leg of the inaugural tie, and it was hoped that the new challenge would raise the bar for the locals as they compete to qualify for the Eurosurf championships which will be held in the Island later this year.
And raise the bar it did, with Jersey’s Brad Jones, Will Glenn and former European Tour surfer Gordon Blake all making it through to the men’s final alongside 2007 French Champion Alexy Deniel.
It was Deniel who took the honours on the day after taking control in the dying stages, but Jones, surfing in his first ever competition, finished a close second, with Blake third and junior surfer Glen fourth.
In the women’s event, Jersey’s Esther Lemprière took the top spot after a hard fought final, with fellow local Grace Davies second, Brittany champion Helene Bonutto from the Bernick club third, and Jersey’s Chantele Coote fourth.
