Terry wins team gold

JERSEY Spartan Athletic Club junior Oliver Terry won a gold medal at the inter-counties cross-country and world trials in Nottingham on Saturday.

At Wollaton Park, the 13-year-old Victoria College student finished sixth out of the 294 starters in the under-13 boys’ race and finishing second Hampshire runner he helped the County to first place in the team event.

Terry’s run was the performance of the day from the Jersey Spartan quintet of runners representing Hampshire but he was not the only medal winner as Felicity Johnson Deeley collected a team bronze in the U17 girls’ race.

Johnson Deeley, a year young in the age group, was hoping for another good result following her win in the Hampshire championships in January and 26th out of 249 should give her confidence for her prospects next year.

Hampered by a stitch midway through, Elliott Dorey placed 74th out of 304 starters in the U15 boys’ race. Daniel Leerson and Chloe Turmel placed 33rd and 38th out of the 307 runners in the U15 girls’ race.
