THE Jeux des Iles kicked off in true Caribbean style in Guadeloupe on Sunday and Jersey wasted no time in securing their first medal thanks to swimmer Charlotte Manning.
Manning, a student at Haute Vallée, took a silver medal yesterday in the 200m individual medley finishing in 2.32.42 min, adding to the bronze she won last year in the 200m breast-stroke in Corsica.
‘I was pleased with the way I swam and it’s good to be the first medal winner,’ said Manning (14).
The Jersey swim team secured six personal bests while Tom Gallichan swam a National qualifying time in the 100m freestyle as he finished in 56.72 sec.
‘I’m very pleased with the start, there have been some excellent swims and the medal was a little bit unexpected so very much a bonus,’ said coach Keiron Bowbrick.
