Bellozanne residents angry over new dump

Transport and Technical Services have invited residents to a public meeting to discuss a proposal to move the green waste site from La Collette to Bellozanne.

At the moment Islanders use La Collette to dump the waste but a decision was made, earlier this year, to move the site, and that could be to Bellozanne Valley.

The letter, sent by Will Gardiner, director of waste strategy projects at the Transport department, says that the meeting will give residents an opportunity to find out more.

But this has left property owner Sheila Baudains, who has lived in the area for 22 years, fuming.

‘This area is a green zone, so how can they do whatever they like? I have been trying to build a bungalow, because I am disabled, but they told me I couldn’t because the land has to be kept flat and it is not in keeping with the area. Yet they will be building great big containers to store garden waste on the site. It is just not fair.’
