Tourism staff may have to reapply for their own jobs

If approved by the States and JHA members, Jersey Tourism will be replaced by a new public-private partnership called Marketing Jersey which will also run the tourist information centre, which has been built next to the new bus station.

The idea was first proposed two years ago by the Jersey Hospitality Association, and earlier this year Economic Development commissioned specialist UK consultants Locum Consulting to produce recommendations, which this week have been published on the States website.

If the scheme is approved, the new organisation will start operating from January 2009. It will be controlled by a board of independent directors who will have the freedom to choose the staff they employ.
