Town pub: Brewery and residents in deadlock

The pub in Lemprière Street was closed by the Licensing Bench following concern that there had been a breakdown in management control. The closure followed complaints by residents of the area about constant anti-social behaviour from some of the pub’s customers. The brewery, Randalls Vautier, were told that if they were to succeed in their application to have the pub reopened they had to work closely with the residents to come up with an acceptable revised plan. Last night Randalls staff invited residents to a meeting about their proposals, which included having a policy of operating no live music or karaoke. The meeting was attended by 12 residents as well as by Deputy Jackie Hilton, who represented some of the elderly residents in the area who are in their 80s and 90s.
