However, even though they were, by modern standards, going at a snail-like pace, the hundreds of people they held up were doing anything but grumbling. Tim Scott and his children Andy, Chris and Sam were driving of some of the most amazing entries in this year’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. The rally is open to cars produced before 1904 and commemorates Emancipation Day in 1896, when a race from the capital to Brighton was held to celebrate the enactment of a new law which allowed cars to be driven without the need of a man in front carrying a red flag. This year, Tim Scott, who has a collection of veteran cars, was at the wheel of the same 1903 Mercedes two-seater that he drove from Peking to Paris in June. His wife, Pat, was his passenger.
