The States are to debate proposals that would see take-away opening hours extended from 1 am until 2.30 am. That means food outlets would have licences in line with the late liquor licences granted to some bars and nightclubs – although they will be issued on a case-by-case basis. The plans have been lodged by Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf with the backing of the police who believe later licences could assist in staggering the number of people leaving town late at night. Despite residents’ complaints about noise in town, St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft said that the proposals could work if properly implemented.
