Jersey and Guernsey set for Twenty/20 first

The islands will oppose one another on Saturday afternoon following the Barclays Wealth Twenty/20 county game between Glamorgan Dragons and Worcester Royals at the KGV Field.

Jersey captain Matt Hague said: ‘It’s a bit of fun to end the season, but it’s a game against Guernsey and a game we will go out to win.

‘The only new face in our team is Martin Waite, he has trained with the Island squad since the start of the year and he has been given this opportunity to show us what he can do.

‘Martin is an off-spinner and a useful acquisition to our team.

We’ve not really had a quality spinner playing Guernsey and it’s good to have him as a bowling option.

He is also a lower order batsman and like the rest of us he is looking forward to the challenge.

‘Guernsey have selected a good team too, I just hope the weather is good and we can put on a good show as I’m told a lot of Jersey supporters are travelling for the games.’ Guernsey have two newcomers in their squad, TJ Ozanne and twelfth man Jaco Pieterse.

Ozanne is Guernsey’s hockey centre forward.

He opens the batting Cobo in the Evening League, he can bowl medium pace and is a good outfielder.

South African Pieterse, who plays for St Pierre, is a middle order destructive batsman and a good fielder.

Mike Carpenter is Jersey umpire and Lynne Davis scorer.

Jersey are being supported by NatWest.
