St Clement stroll, Convent graft

St Clement stroll, Convent graft

From the start St Clement, runners-up to Convent A last season, were allowed space and freedom to implement set pieces without much interference.

Although St Ouen tried hard, they never seemed to dent the awesome court action and flowing skill of the experienced St Clement, who have now won their first two games of the new campaign.

Final score ended at 72-8 and the St Clement girls walked away without an ounce of sweat to share between them! Player of the Match honours went to St Clement’s Emma Carré and St Lawrence’s Alice Godfrey.

In total contrast a gruelling derby match ensued as Convent B were hot on the heels of their A team – the league champions – from the first whistle.

It wasn’t until the final quarter as the B team edged one goal ahead that the A team saw a loss looming and composed themselves, inching away to gain a four-goal lead, 39-35, in the dying moments of the game.

PoM went to Sophie Hickey (A) and Bethan Conroy (B).

In Division II, St Lawrence forged a lead in the third quarter to defeat St Clement D.

This well-spirited match started evenly but with the score favouring St Clement 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, St Lawrence made changes to their line up and pulled back to take the next quarter 15-14.

Both teams gave 100 per cent and worked hard for their fellow players but in the third, St Lawrence’s investment gained them a greater lead increasing to 26-19.

Goal shooter for St Lawrence Tracey Bradshaw earned the play of the match title along with St Clement’s centre; umpires were Liz Olim and Ann Halliwell.

Other scores – Div II: Accies A 41, Quackers 30; Div IV: St Lawrence E 30, St Lawrence F 16.
