Itis wipes out tax troubles at CAB

People who were unable to meet their income tax demands were a major issue for the charity, but, according to CAB manager Francis Le Gresley, Itis has wiped it out. ‘We were having to call the income tax department four or five times a day on behalf of people who were unable to meet their demands. Now that Itis has been introduced, the problem has gone away,’ said Mr Le Gresley, who was a long-term supporter of introducing a pay-as-you-earn income tax scheme. ‘Nowadays we perhaps have to help people once or twice a month who are having trouble because their effective rates are too high.’ Mr Le Gresley, whose team of volunteers are on a fund-raising drive this week to mark ‘Advice Changes Lives’ week within the bureau, believes that the introduction of Itis has also led to high street banks and lenders in the Island becoming more responsible when issuing loans.
