But according to a report published today, which compares consumer prices in Jersey and the UK, the gap is narrowing. Between 2000 and 2005, prices increased at a considerably faster rate in Jersey, but since 2005 the rate of increase has been similar for both. And the JEP’s Fair Play campaign is partly responsible. The head of the States Statistics Unit, Dr Duncan Gibault, who has published today’s report, said: ‘Fair Play played a crucial role in helping to bring prices down as well as pressure from the media which raised public awareness about prices.’ In the last year the cost of housing rose by 11%, fuel and light by 10% and motoring and food by 4%. The report states that food prices increased at a similar rate to the UK.
