More than three weeks on from the event and organisers are enjoying a period of quiet, calm reflection – a sharp contrast to the aftermath of 2006 which led to inquiries, recriminations and resignations. Battle 2007 has been widely praised and association chairman Tony Perkins has now had time to consider the pros and cons of the event. One of the new elements of this year’s parade was the introduction of a free standing area – something Mr Perkins considers to have been a big success, with around 6,000 people taking advantage of it. ‘I think it was very successful,’ he said. ‘It was obvious from the demand for seats that we have the balance about right, but we need to generate revenue before we could ever contemplate a totally free show.’
