Nerves and excitement were in evidence at all the secondary schools this morning, but once again Jersey students seem to have have shone with the 16-year-olds matching the success of A-level students last week. There was special cause for celebration at some schools as students learned that they were among Britian’s best in their chosen subjects. Les Quennevais head teacher John Thorp said: ‘In art, the 46 students did very well, and 28 of them obtained A*s. In languages, two students have been recognised for special mention by their examination board, one for scoring one of the top five marks in French (out of 100,997 candidates) and one for one of the top five marks in Spanish (out of 35,412 candidates).’ Victoria College head teacher Bob Cook was also reporting similar successes.’Three boys were in the top five in the country for French and three for Spanish,’ he said. ‘Out of the top ten candidates in the UK for languages, 50% are ours. It’s quite unusual to get that from one school. I’m delighted.
Oh, happy day
