Islanders braced for the hurricane

Homes and offices have been boarded up and a curfew imposed in the offshore jurisdiction where many Jersey workers are based in the finance industry. Hurricane Dean is due to continue its destructive march through the Caribbean today and is expected to pass the Cayman Islands off the south coast. But emergency measures have been put into place by island authorities amid reports that the storm could intensify into a category five hurricane. Many Jersey workers in Cayman – which has a large number of trust companies and law firms – are sleeping in their offices or bank buildings.
