All bright on the night for Battle finale

Between 8,000 and 10,000 people gathered at Victoria Avenue to watch what is often regarded as the highlight of the Battle of Flowers. Before whistles and cheering from St Clement’s African wildlife float, Baobab – the winner of the Thursday parade’s Prix d’Excellence – brought a carnival atmosphere to the event. But it was the Optimists’ Club who shone last night with their Viking float, Valhalla, as they scooped the Best Illuminated Float Over 25 ft and the Spectators’ Award.
