From 1 January 2008, only engineers registered as Approved Certifiers of Design will be able to certify the structural soundness of buildings in Jersey.
The new registration scheme will be administered for the Planning and Environment department by Structural Engineers Registration Ltd, a company set up by the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Unregistered engineers will still be able to prepare designs after the introduction of registration, but they will have to secure certification via a body which is recognised under the scheme.
