Saints and Trinity march on

The Saints effectively won their match at St Saviour inside the opening 25 minutes against Sporting Academics having ran into a 5-0 lead after a hat-trick by Craig Russell and singles by Jean-Paul Martyn and Nathan Taylor.

The young Accies side regrouped to play some good football and they were denied by a couple of fine saves from Saints goalkeeper Andrew Bird.

St Paul’s added further goals through Taylor, Martyn, Jordan Docherty and substitute Craig Leitch while late on Accies’ play-maker Ben Gallichan put a penalty kick wide.

Trinity were 5-0 winners away to St Brelade.

John Beatson scored twice and Barry Beatson, Stephen McCarter and Graham Ling once each.

In round two matches tomorrow week, Trinity host First Tower or Jersey Scottish while St Paul’s are away to Rozel Rovers or St Ouen.

Both matches are 6 pm kick offs.
