Guernsey reclaim the inter-insular pétanque trophy

Defending the trophy, which Jersey won last year in Guernsey, the home side were down 7-5 immediately after the break and then capitulated to a Guernsey team which seemed to get stronger the longer the day wore on.

Four of the Guernsey pairings were to return home undefeated, notably Paul Duchemin and Bonnie Robert, Marcel Edwards and Seb Renaud, Dave Harvey and Fred Wallnofer and Jenny de la Rue and Lee Holberry while the only Jersey team to win all of their four games were Robert Birch and Frank Morel.

However, Mick Cotillard and Darren Le Brun and Ian Rondel and Bernie Birch each won three games and Louie Bowen and Derek Hart, Joy Hart and Elaine Paisnel and Robin Stockton and Mary Fennessey each won two.

The Jersey teams were Mick Cotillard (captain) with Frank Morel and Robert Birch and Ken and Beryl Vibert; Niall Fennessey and Tim Bechelet; Louie Bowen and Derek Hart; Joy Hart and Elaine Paisnel; Lawrence Rondel and Nancy Welsh; Mick Cotillard and Darren Le Brun; Robin Stockton and Mary Fennessey; Bernie Birch and Ian Rondel; Neil Selby and Helene Retrosi with (reserves) Mick Rondel and Marion Allain.
