Town Hall in staff clash on pensions

At last night’s parish rates assembly at the Town Hall, a proposal by Deputy Jacqui Huet to exclude new employees from the scheme, for which States and parish workers are eligible, was narrowly defeated by 26 votes to 20. But St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft has made it clear that he now intends to try to prevent new staff from being able to qualify. He said he will put new employees onto temporary contracts until such time as the rules have been changed to keep them out of the Public Employees Contributory Retirement Scheme (PECRS).
