The staff, from HSBC Bank International, were given the surprise task, with just an hour’s notice, of assisting the National Trust for Jersey to restore an 18th Century cottage on Portelet Common above the renowned Palaeolithic site of La Cotte caves. The trust had been planning to remove a Seventies extension attached to the cottage but the undertaking in such difficult terrain would have been costly.
