Officer on dog cruelty charge

PC Jayson Lee is accused of punching police dog Rico on the nose and squeezing its testicles, the Magistrate’s Court heard yesterday. Lee (36), of Grande Route de la C?te, St Clement, allegedly breached the Protection of Animals (Jersey) Law 1980 by causing unnecessary suffering to Rico on one occasion. He is also accused of breaching the Animal Welfare (Jersey) Law on two occasions. On 31 October last year at St Ouen’s Manor, Lee is alleged to have struck Rico with his knee, twisted the dog’s scruff, punched the dog in the nose and squeezed its testicles. On 27 February this year at the former Pontin’s site in St Ouen, he is alleged to have punched the dog on top of the head. And on 6 March at the Scout Hut, St Ouen, he is accused of striking Rico with his dog lead and chain across the nose. Lee has reserved his plea and the case has been remanded until 9 July.
