Bus passengers hurt in emergency stop

A mother and her six-year-old daughter who were sitting at the front suffered head injuries when they were catapulted forward. The mother hit the windscreen and the girl hit the dashboard below. Two elderly passengers hit their heads on the metal poles in the bus and another pensioner suffered a cut head and a dislocated elbow. A minibus and two ambulances were used to take the five to hospital where they were treated and released soon afterwards. The driver was left very shaken by the incident, which happened at around 11.20 am yesterday as the bus was driving along Longueville Road close to Clos Gosset. A spokesman for the States police said that a car pulled out in front of the bus, forcing the driver to brake suddenly. The car drove off without stopping and the police are now appealing for witnesses who can identify the driver or who saw what happened. The number to ring is 612612.
