At the World Championship qualifying event, Paul Clements and Tracy Huish were top Jersey team male and female respectively, Clements finishing the course in 1 hour 58 minutes and 54 seconds and Huish in 2 hr 26.23.
Jersey team manager Andy Kemp said: ‘It was a world qualifying event and our times were excellent, we’re still awaiting the final results and I’m confident four or five of our athletes will qualify for the championships.
‘The performances of the guys was the best I’ve seen in a Jersey group ever – six in and around the two-hour mark is unbelievable and credit to them all.
‘Guernsey’s Alan Rowe finished ahead of Paul Clements but Guernsey do not have the strength in depth to compete with us as a team when we go to Rhodes.
‘Young Tom Perchard has only been doing triathlons for just under two years; he clocked two hours four minutes and 36 seconds to show his potential.
‘Dan Halksworth was first out of the water by a country mile to but that’s not surprising to us because he is an ex-Commonwealth swimmer.
‘It was a hard day for the girls and they performed to their standard which was very pleasing.
‘I’m hoping for teams medals in Rhodes, gold for the men and at least a bronze for the girls who looked strong.’ Men: Paul Clements 1.58.54; Dan Halksworth 1.59.26; Scott Pitcher 2.00.45; Nick Le Quesne 2.01.08; Chris Wescott 2.01.10; Tom Perchard 2.04.36; Matt Gambles 2.13.40.
