States to debate GST on the shelf

Despite grave concerns from the Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Directors, the Consumer Council and some of the biggest retailers in the Island, Senator Philip Ozouf is pressing ahead with his plans to follow the UK and Europe’s model of adding the tax on the shelf. Critics say that it will be inflationary because businesses will round up prices, and it will also be a huge administrative burden on them.
