Tories deny any link with ‘Jersey branch’

They have also denied endorsing Darius Pearce as a candidate. Last week Mr Pearce announced that if he stood in the next election, it would be as a candidate for the Jersey Conservative Party – and promised the party would fight the Deputy and Senatorial elections. But after an inquiry from the JEP, the Tories issued a statement saying they had not endorsed Mr Pearce. The party has also told him to amend his entry on the internet site Wikepedia, which claimed he was the UK head of Conservatives Abroad. A spokesman said: ‘Currently he is not an official representative of the Conservative Party. Darius Pearce has approached the party and expressed an interest in assisting us in establishing a branch of Conservatives Abroad. We have invited him to attend a meeting at Conservative campaign headquarters to discuss the way forward. ‘Currently our Conservatives Abroad branch in the Channel Islands is inactive but we are of course keen to rectify this.’
